The Open Brain Institute (OBI) was founded by Prof Henry Markram and Dr Kamila Markram in January 2025.
Henry Markram is professor of neuroscience at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and has pioneered groundbreaking initiatives that have redefined brain research and computational neuroscience, including founding the Brain Mind Institute, the Blue Brain Project, and the Human Brain Project, and serving as co-founder and chairman of Frontiers, the Frontiers Research Foundation, the Frontiers Planet Prize, and Inait. A visionary leader and pioneer in simulation neuroscience, Henry has led revolutionary efforts to model the brain and decode its complexities through cutting-edge technology. He is the president of the Board of the Open Brain Institute.

Committed to revolutionizing brain research, the Board unites world-renowned experts pushing the boundaries of neuroscience through collaboration, innovation, and open science.
Kamila Markram is a neuroscientist and the co-founder and CEO of Frontiers, one of the world’s largest and most cited research publishers on a mission to make science openly accessible and thereby accelerate innovation and collaboration to enable healthy lives on a healthy planet.
Idan Segev, a distinguished pioneer in computational neuroscience, dedicated his life to study the neural circuits that drive brain function. His groundbreaking work uncovers how neurons process information and how brain structure directly influences behavior.
Javier de Felipe Oroquieta, a world-renowned expert in cortical microanatomy, investigates the brain's intricate structure to further our understanding of cognition and disease. His research on the neuroanatomy of the cortex sheds light on its role in perception and neural disorders.
Sean Hill, at the forefront of neuroinformatics and large-scale brain modeling, is committed to databasing neural data to advance our understanding of brain function and disorders, paving the way for a comprehensive, data-driven approach to neuroscience.
